Three Canon Document Scanners in the DM Awards
Falcon are pleased to announce that a number of Canon's latest product releases have been nominated in the Document Manager Magazine Awards. In the Network Product of the Year Award Category, the imageFORMULA P-150 portable document scanner has been nominated and in the Work Group Scanner Product of the Year Award category both the Canon DR4010C departmental scanner and the Canon ScanFront 220/220P desktop document scanners have been nominated. The winning products will be awarded on the basis of a voting process submitted by the magazine's readers. Voting for these Canon scanners closes on the 30th September and after an incredible year for the imaging solutions manufacturer, both Canon UK and Falcon are bracing themselves for one of the most successful awards in the company's history.
The Document Manager (DM) Awards 2010
The awards are a chance for readers of Document Manager Magazine to award outstanding products, suppliers and projects within the document management industry. It's now the fourth year in the Awards' history and in that time-span, it's fast become established as one of the ‘must-attend' calendar events for the sector and at the same time, the actual process behind the awards has evolved far beyond the initial expectations of the team behind it. In fact, in the third year of the awards, 2009, online voting was up 30% on the previous year's. 2009 was also the first year in which an expert judging panel was introduced for the Project Awards Category, an innovation which won much praise from Document Manager readers and the industry more broadly alike.
Network Product of the Year Award Category - the Canon imageFORMULA P-150 Portable Document Scanner
The imageFORMULA P-150 portable document scanner from Canon has already proved a runaway success since its last year. This Canon scanner has been awarded a prestigious iF Design Award for its sleek stylish design and ergonomic build and also garnered a Buyers Laboratory Inc (BLI) ‘Outstanding Achievement Award' in the ‘Mobile Scanner' category in the recent BLI ‘Pick of the Year' Awards. The judges at BLI were particularly impressed by the P-150's document scanning speed as well as the device's very handy Automatic Document Feeder. In fact, the BLI reviewers at the time of testing the P-150 speculated as to whether the Automatic Document Feeder "could change the way people think about portable document scanning ". The imageFORMULA P-150 portable document scanner was also the only portable document scanner tested which did not slow down when document scanning to a PC from a USB 2.0 cable. Other impressive features include this scanner's ability to store up to ten user profiles and its built-in CaptureOnTouch scanning software which allows users to connect to any laptop without the need to install additional drivers or scanning software.
Work Group Scanner Product of the Year Award Category – the DR 4010C Departmental Scanner and the ScanFront 220/220P Desktop Scanner
In the Work Group Scanner Product of the Year Award category, both the DR4010C departmental scanner and the ScanFront 220/220P desktop document scanner from Canon have both been nominated for an award.
The DR4010C is an exceptional departmental scanner which can deliver very high speed colour document scanning at scanning speeds of up to 42 PPM. The DR4010C comes equipped with auto colour for mixed batch document scanning. While the DR4010C departmental scanner offers impressive production and reliability, it also remains a fairly well-contained, compact package.
The ScanFront 220 and 220P desktop scanner models have been designed to make scanning and sharing information as simple as possible. The ScanFront 220/220P desktop scanner deliver compact yet fast and reliable desktop network document scanning and has a large colour touch screen for truly simple operation. With scanning speeds of up to 26 ppm in black and white and 9ppm in colour the ScanFront 220/220P desktop document scanner isn't short on productivity either.
With many of Falcon's scanning software solutions also nominated in these Document Manager Awards along with these three impressive Canon scanners, Falcon hopes to be reporting many great successes when all the reader votes are counted in the coming weeks.

Automatic Document Clustering: Amharic News Items $113.11 Document clustering has a vital role in information storage and retrieval. In order to retrieve set of documents, it would be easy if the collection was clustered. This research is an investigation to the development of a prototype system that can automatically cluster a collection of Amharic news items. There are different techniques to automatic document clustering. The variants of hierarchical and partitional techniques are the most widely used methods. This research followed partitional clustering methodology specifically kmeans and find optimum cluster of documents using statistical approach. Both internal and external qualities of clusters were evaluated using news items from Ethiopian News Agency (ENA). Overall average pair wise similarity and overall purity were used to measure the internal quality of clusters. The values of these parameters were found to be 0.0797 and 0.7840 respectively.
