Hp Deskjet 3650 - Personal Six Color Inkjet Printer

As one of the most bare bones printers of any kind, this little inkjet, the HP DeskJet 3650, comes in one of the smallest packages you will find on the market today, yet offers impressive quality levels and a six color print system that makes for stunning graphics. With the backing of HPs award winning customer support, and a price tag that anyone can afford, the HP DeskJet 3650 sits firmly as a quality personal inkjet printer suitable for almost anyone.

The HP DeskJet 3650 doesn't just print in color; it offers HP's patented PhotoREt III technology which enhances image quality in both color and black and white for incredible print resolution. The device also allows a single cartridge system for monochrome use only, or upgrades to four, or even six, color modes via additional color cartridges.

With print speeds maxing out at 17 pages per minute, the HP DeskJet 3650 does well for speed, though, when quality is increased, or color ink is used, speed will suffer exponentially. Color print speed can maximize at 9 pages per minute when both a tri color and photo cartridge are incorporated in the hardware.

In fast normal mode, quality is increased but print speeds suffer slightly, dropping down to 10 pages per minute. When text is mixed with graphics, print speed drops again to approximately 4 pages per minute. In black and white text mode alone print speeds can go as low as 8 pages per minute in normal mode, .9 pages per minute in best mode, and only .1 pages per minute in maximum dot per inch enhanced mode. That means at the maximum quality setting, a single page of text could take up to ten minutes to print.

Color print speeds follow a similar pattern, with a full page of color taking as long as 20 minutes per page. 4 x 6 photo paper is compatible with the HP DeskJet 3650, but operates at a ridiculously slow .25 pages per minute at maximum dot per inch quality, which means a single photograph takes 40 minutes to print.

At this price, one can't complain about speed too much, as the HP DeskJet 3650 is obviously designed as a simple, bare bones machine, and should never be considered for high powered office use. Quality settings are user selectable via on screen controls, and range from fast draft at 300 x 300 dpi, all the way up to maximum dpi mode at 4800 x 1200 dpi via image enhancement. Fast normal, normal, and best modes are also options.

The HP DeskJet 3650 is compatible with standard sized paper, as well as specialized paper ranging up to 110 pound index card thickness, making it a great option for the hobbyist or light duty user. It also has a 100 sheet input tray, which can be adjusted to hold 10 envelopes, 20 greeting cards, or up to 30 sheets of photo paper as well. While the HP DeskJet 3650 isn't the most powerful unit available, it does have its place in the personal printer market.
