Theology Of Good Works
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
I recently read the following words of John Stott in his book Listen to the Spirit, Hear the World that said "The whole Gospel for the whole human being, and for every human being." This phrase reminds us of the full mission, ie, a look at the human being as a whole, not only in the spiritual realm, because man is not only spirit but also a body, a body that has wishes, desires, physical needs , emotional and sentimental, just can not look for a human being just trying to meet their spiritual needs.
We are living in a time of great social crises. Sick, homeless, hungry, who have suffered losses, have been betrayed and abused, thus portraying the critical situation we are. Every day we need each other, but it seems the old saying "every man for himself" continues increasingly gained ground. In our generation has risen to those who speak much and do little, and those who are mere spectators, merely awaiting the sad end of this novel, without knowing what they are doing her part. This is the background that is inserted into the Lord's Church. So do not just be the Church within the Church but the Church outside the Church, through this we can have a look out seeing the man in full and using the vehicle of social work for which they can see Christ in us.
1. Integral Mission: A biblical perspective.
The Church as an agent of transformation can not close our hearts to the social crisis, which the human being is, but should rather be a vehicle of social standards Ephesians 2:10, which brings us to the responsibility to perform good works (ergon Agata), this being one of the purposes of our existence "created ... to ..." culminating in a beautiful highway to which we saved in Christ Jesus, we must go, because our God has prepared for that we should walk in it.This, by no means new to the Church, for Christ in Matthew 25:33-40 reports that the social responsibility of the Church is to fill the hunger, thirst and clothing from your neighbor, be sympathetic to the sick and assist the inmate, because when this is accomplished, for Christ is what we do.
Means by social responsibility here any help or act of mercy. Social responsibility fully know that the Government will, however, the Church can not abandon the order of Scripture: "do good to all ..." Galatians 6:10.
Good work comes from the Greek ergon (action, work, work, work, make, operate, perform) and agate (good, good, good). Making the interpretation of certain texts of Scripture, we understand how important the practice of good works as a conclusion of faith.
In Ephesians 2:10 Paul says to us clearly that we are created in Christ for good works, and these were prepared for us to do. The classification of verbs in the Greek gives us the idea of completeness, since as a whole was done and can not be changed. Literally would be - has been created - so we can not escape this responsibility, in this act are completely passive. E - pisemos around him - where we are already quite active, giving us the idea of walking in it, does not deviate. Already a preposition - to - point to the intention, purpose and goal of creation. The context here refers to salvation is by grace not by works (v.8, 9), but we were created for good works, then we come to the conclusion that I do not do good works to be saved, but because I am saved is that I do good works.
Galatians 6:10 is in agreement with the text above, it shows us that we should do good "while we have opportunity," this term was removed from the word kairon (time set - which comes from kairos) - a set time, set by God, therefore gives us the idea that will only end when he determined, that is, as He keeps us alive in this world. What do good for the Church must be something pleasant, with a good heart (verse 9). The verb ergazometa - do we operate, we made that says we as a body, we should be active, working efficiently, even when the benefit is one of our brothers.
2. Integral mission today: practical action
The Church must not only be concerned with the spiritual realm of people, but seeing the man as a whole being, that needs to be careful not only in the spiritual aspect, but also in the physical and emotional. This is the concept of integral mission - see man as a whole. We can work evangelization "shakes hands" with social responsibility, viewing it as a bridge (because it's close), as a partner (because it works) and as a result of evangelization, (because to become our brother, we can not remain indifferent to their needs).
Below are some designs that have this vision, which can be a source of inspiration for our lives, they are: ACAHERJ: Evangelical Chaplaincy; Isis Foundation Bruder; GTME - Group of evangelical missionary work; Work Gustavo Adolfo; Mission Life, Hungry at night ; A week for Jesus Ministry New Hope; Integrarte; Audioteca Salt and Light, Salvation Army; Institute Amar; Home Dorcas; AME - Association Hope Mission, YWAM - (12 projects); support center for sailors, VEM - Widows Evangelicals Missions; PROVEL - Benevolent Association Pro-Aging; Compassion; Cerena - New Hope Recovery Centers, Newfoundland; Not satisfied - MAC - Christian Movement activist; Committee - Ecumenical Service Coordination, Project Nilson Braga; fruiting in the Third Age Project, Project Impact, Open Doors, Wings of Socorro, CERVHU, Shelter Stone Evangelical Guaratiba, ODD and SPEAK. Later we will be citing them in more detail some of these projects.
And the Church? What have you done to reach the man in full Besides presenting the gospel?
3. Mission complete: heroes and heroines of yesterday
We find in the story of the Good Samaritan a classic left (Luke 10.25-37) to confront us, because we notice clearly that the religious (the church) were indifferent to its next event, while a surge that is marginalized, rejected by the Jews, the called away from God "and presents a model in this situation, a pattern of good works as put into practice. And what has the church done? We need to grow in the field of ergon agate (good deeds). The Church must not in any way follow the examples of religious, giving back and passing over those who need help, those who long for help, however, we must walk on the paradigm established by this Samaritan.
Through the above what are the needs of my neighbor? Although we have no full conditions to rescue him, in the example left by the good Samaritan noticed that we perform good works that are within my reach and those that are out of my reach, we should seek to "deliver to the host" so that it gives continuity the good work begun.
Around us we have several coming that are sick in the body and soul, half-dead, hungry, without clothes, without drugs, unemployed, without access to basic supplies of life. What should be the answer for this community? Pass by? Pretending not to see? Place all blame the government? I believe the answer is bring them to God with a Bible in one hand and the other biblical ergon agates.
Our history is replete with men and women to follow the example of the Good Samaritan fought and worked with both hands to Christ, having the Bible in one hand and the other love of neighbor voiced by social works. We can quickly bring the memory eight names for our inspiration, which are: Martin Luther King - the pastor who had a bold dream. King James - translator of the Bible and visited prisoners. Catherine Booth - the mother of the salvation army.Dr. Robert Kalley - the man who distributed drugs from its own income. John Amos Comenius - an education for rich and poor. Gloucester - Christian journalist starts the movement that led to Sunday school. Florence Nathingale - the gospel that formed the basis of the current structure of nursing courses. Henry Dunnan - founded no less than the Red Cross.
CONCLUSION
We need to hear the story, listen to the Bible, apply the social work as an ally of evangelization externalizing the love of our master. What will our heroes of today, our modern world of today? For we can not pretend that good works are not part of the lives of those who truly serve the master and deny the absolute truth printed in James 4:17 "Therefore he who knows to do good and doeth it not him it is sin."

The Condition of the Working-Class in England in 1844 $3.99 This is an electronic edition of the complete book complemented by author biography. This booktable of contents linked to every chapter and footnote. ******************. The Condition of the Working Class in England in 1844 is one of the best-known works of Friedrich Engels. Originally written in German as Die Lage der arbeitenden Klasse in England, it is a study of the working class in Victorian England. It was also Engels'' first book, written during his stay in Manchester from 1842 to 1844. Manchester was then at the very heart of the Industrial Revolution, and Engels compiled his study from his own observations and detailed contemporary reports. Engels argues that the Industrial Revolution made workers worse off. He shows, for example, that in large industrial cities mortality from disease, as well as death-rates for workers were higher than in the countryside. In cities like Manchester and Liverpool mortality from smallpox, measles, scarlet fever and whooping cough was four times as high as in the surrounding countryside, and mortality from convulsions was ten times as high as in the countryside. The overall death-rate in Manchester and Liverpool was significantly higher than the national average (one in 32.72 and one in 31.90 and even one in 29.90, compared with one in 45 or one in 46). An interesting example shows the increase in the overall death-rates in the industrial town of Carlisle. Prior to the introduction of mills (1779-1787), 4,408 out of 10,000 children died before reaching the age of five. After the introduction of mills the figure rose to 4,738. Prior to the introduction of mills, 1,006 out of 10,000 adults died before reaching 39 years old. After the introduction of mills the death rate rose to 1,261 out of 10,000. It is considered by many to be a classic account of the condition of the industrial working class. It was originally addressed to a German audience. The eldest son of a successful German textile industrialist, Engels became involved in radical journalism as a teenager. Sent to England, what he saw made him even more radical. About this time he formed his life-long intellectual partnership with Karl Marx. Excerpted from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. |

To read it is to hear America talking." — Boston Globe. "Splendid... Important... Rich and fascinating... The people we meet are not digits in a poll but real people with real names who share their ancedotes, adventures, and aspirations with us." — Business Week.
