The best way to get high quality images into the computer is to shoot 35mm film and then scan it. One advantage of film scanner is that your one generation closer to using the original image. Film has a much wider range then a print, your computer has more to work with once the image is scanned. The highest quality scans are from slides or negatives. They have a much higher dynamic rang.

Film scanner must enlarge the slide and negatives quite a bit .They must have very high resolution to be really useful.
