Luis Francisco Valle Velasco
Legal Translator and Attorney
Over 20 years of specialized experience in English-Spanish legal translation for law firms, businesses, and international clients.
I am a law-trained legal translator with over twenty years of experience specializing in English-Spanish legal translation for law firms, businesses, and international clients.
My academic and professional background combines international business, legal education, and over twenty years of specialized practice in legal translation. I earned a B.S. in International Business from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA, and later obtained my Law Degree from Universidad Privada Boliviana in La Paz, Bolivia, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I am also a registered attorney with the Bolivian Bar Association.
My work in legal translation began in 2003, while I was still in law school, when I was approached to translate legal documents based on my command of English. What began as an opportunity for extra income during my studies soon developed into a specialized professional career. Since then, I have worked continuously in legal translation, building extensive experience with legal documents and earning the trust of both local and international legal clients.
In 2017, I earned a Certificate in Legal Translation from the University of Arizona, further strengthening my specialization in this field. My legal training allows me to approach each project not only from a linguistic perspective, but also with close attention to legal meaning, document function, terminology, and formal register.
Through ValleVelasco Legal Translations, I provide high-precision legal translation services grounded in legal knowledge, professional judgment, confidentiality, and terminological consistency. My practices is based in La Paz, Bolivia, and service both national and international clients.
I work with professional translation tools and structured workflows, including CAT Tools, terminological management, translation memory, style guides, and the careful and confidential use of AI under professional human supervision. My objective is to provide translations that are accurate, clear, reliable, efficient, and fully aligned with the legal purpose of each document.
I provide specialized language services designed for legal, institutional, and professional contexts where accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality are essential.
English (U.S., U.K.) ↔ Spanish (Latin America, Europe)
I provide specialized legal translation to and from English and Spanish for law firms, businesses, and international clients. My work covers a wide range of legal and official documents, including contracts, powers of attorney, civil registry documents, academic records, police records, regulatory documentation, corporate materials, and other documents used in legal and administrative proceedings.
Each translation is handled with close attention to legal meaning, terminological precision, formal register, and the intended function of the document. My background in law allows me to approach legal translation not merely as a linguistic exercise, but as a professional task requiring substantive legal understanding.
Adaptation of Spanish legal translations to the Bolivian legal system
I offer localization of Spanish legal translations to align with Bolivian legal terminology, institutional usage, and documentary conventions. This service is particularly valuable when a translation prepared in another Spanish variety needs to be adapted for use, review, filing, or circulation in Bolivia.
Localization may involve adjusting terminology, document phrasing, references to legal institutions, and register so that the final text reads naturally and accurately within the Bolivian legal context while preserving the original legal meaning.
Careful transcription of text from image-based or scanned legal documents
I provide transcription of documents from photographs, scanned files, and image-based materials as a preliminary or complementary step to translation, review, or document preparation. This service is useful when source texts are not editable and require accurate extraction before further linguistic work can be performed.
Particular care is taken with names, dates, numbers, seals, official references, and other elements that may be critical in legal, administrative, or evidentiary contexts.
Professional revision of MT/AI output for legal use
I offer post-editing of machine-translated or AI-generated texts, with particular focus on legal and formal documents. This service is intended for clients who require the efficiency of technology-supported workflows while ensuring that the final text is reviewed and refined by a legal translation specialist.
Post-editing includes correction of terminology, syntax, register, omissions, inconsistencies, and legal phrasing, with the objective of producing a final text that is clear, accurate, and fit for professional use. In legal contexts, machine-generated output should never be treated as final without expert human review.
Review, consistency control, and quality assessment of Spanish-language legal texts
I provide linguistic quality assurance for Spanish-language legal and professional texts, with a focus on Latin American Spanish. This service includes review for grammar, style, consistency, clarity, terminology, formatting, and overall linguistic quality.
It is particularly useful for law firms, translation providers, and organizations that need an additional layer of professional review before a document is submitted, published, delivered to a client, or used in legal or regulatory settings.
The publications presented in this section include both English translations of Bolivian laws and original work on legal translation and Bolivian law localization.
The translated legal texts are meant to make selected areas of Bolivian legislation more accessible to an international English-speaking audience, including foreign investors, legal professionals, consultants, academics, and businesses interested in Bolivia’s legal and regulatory framework. These publications are intended to help readers better understand the legal environment surrounding investment, commercial activity, and other areas of practical interest in Bolivia.
This section also includes Translating Bolivian Law, my book in which I share my professional journey in legal translation, as well as reflections, practical advice, and insights for aspiring translators and for anyone interested in the translation and localization of Bolivian law.
